Singing Heritage Route kulttuurireitin johtaja Pekka Huttu-Hiltunen ja viestintäkoordinaattori Maria Iltola pääsivät vihdoin toteuttamaan vierailut reitin partnereiden luona. Vierailu vahvisti reittitoimintamme merkitystä ja paransi huomattavasti yhteistyötä eri toimijoiden välillä. Samalla matkalla kävimme tutustumassa suomalais-ugrilaiseen seminaariin, joka järjestettiin Otepäässä. Tavoitteena oli tiivistää yhteistyötä myös tuohon suuntaan Kuhmon 2023 suomalais-ugrilaisen kulttuuripääkaupunkivuoden puitteissa.
Viron kansallismuseoon Tarttoon saapui SHR verkostossamme jo toimineita kuin uusiakin aiheesta kiinnostuneita tahoja. Tilaisuudessa varmistui, että museo voi tulevaisuudessa toimia reitin keskeisenä tiedotuspisteenä ja yhteisenä toimintapaikkana. Museo myös toivoo suomalaisten korkeakoulujen kiinnostuvan heillä tarjolla olevista aineistoista. Museossa on modernia teknologiaa hyödyntävät näyttelyt niin lauluperinteistä kuin Itämeren alueella puhutuista kielistä ja murteista. Museon etnografinen kokoelma on laaja ja asetettu kauniisti esille. (https://www.erm.ee/en)
Seuraavana vierailukohteena oli Itä-Virossa sijaitseva Setumaa, jossa keskusteluja käytiin niin reitin kuin suomalais-ugrilaisen yhteistyön osalta. He ovat erittäin kiinnostuneita niin esiintyjävaihdosta kuin kulttuurimatkailun kehittämisestä. (https://www.visitsetomaa.ee/en) 
Latviassa kävimme myös kahdessa paikassa, aivan itärajan läheisyydessä olevassa Ludzan kaupungissa, joka pienuudestaan huolimatta tarjoaa oivalliset puitteet matkailijoille. He järjestävät muun muassa käsityö- ja ruokafestivaaleja, jotka antavat lisäväriä reitillemme.
Daugavpilsissä meitä odotti erittäin innostunut joukko kulttuuri- ja matkailualan toimijoita. Saimme kuulla esittelyn kohteista, jotka olisivat kiinnostuneita osallistumaan reittitoimintaan.

Liettuan ensimmäinen vierailu tehtiin pääkaupunkiin Vilnaan. Siellä puhuttiin erityisesti siitä, mitä mahdollisuuksia reittitoiminta alueelle tuo ja kuinka paljon panostusta se toimijoilta vaatii.
Illan jo pimennyttyä saavuimme pieneen Birzain kaupunkiin ja sen merkittävimpään vierailukohteeseen Selan linnaan. Vierailusta tuli ikimuistoinen. Linnan matkaopas esitteli meille perinteisen oluenpanomenetelmän ja toki antoi meidän maistaakin hieman. Aina välillä ohjelmassa saimme kuulla kansanmusiikkiryhmän laulua, soittoa ja päästä osalliseksi perinteisistä tansseistakin. (https://www.etno.lt/en/) (https://www.visitbirzai.lt/en/)
Kierroksella vastaanotto oli erittäin lämmin ja ihmiset innostuneita reittihankkeestamme. Nyt alkaa laajemman verkoston rakentaminen ja yhteisten toimien suunnittelu. Tarjoamme mahdollisuuden kansainväliseen yhteistyöhön ja näkyvyyden parantamiseen myös suomalaisille matkailualantoimijoille, kulttuurialantekijöille, koulutusorganisaatioille jne.
The 11th Annual Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe 4.-8.10.2022
Euroopan neuvoston kulttuurireittien vuosittainen tapaaminen järjestettiin Kreetalla, Haniassa. Paikalle oli saapunut yli 400 edustajaa. Seminaarit käsittelivät suurelta osin reittien digitalisoimista sekä kestävän kehityksen näkökulmia. Myös kolmelle uudelle reitille jaettiin kulttuurireittistatukset.
Mikä meille tärkeintä, Pekka esitteli Singing Heritage Routen foorumissa ja se sai erittäin lämpimän vastaanoton. Lauluteema koettiin tärkeäksi ja yhdistäähän se kaikkia maailman kansoja. Myös selkeä esittely ja AiAi Productionsin video saivat paljon kiitosta. Tästä on erittäin hyvä jatkaa reitin kehittämistä.

SHR:n oma arviointi on alkanut ja marraskuussa otamme vastaan Evdoxia Baniotopouloun, joka tekee arvioinnin meidän reitistä. Hänen tehtävänään on ensin lukea läpi hakemuspaperimme ja sitten tulla tutustumaan joihinkin reitin varren kohteisiin. Me esittelemme hänelle reitillämme tarjolla olevaa kulttuuria niin lauluperinteitä kuin museotoimintaa, pyrimme osoittamaan hänelle valmiutemme yhteistyöhön ja näyttämään verkostomme toimivuuden. Näin pyrimme saamaan hänet vakuuttumaan ja suosittelemaan meille kulttuurireittistatusta. Greetings from the Baltic tour as well From the Council of Europe’s annual cultural route forum.
Baltic tour, 30 September – 3 October 2022
Pekka Huttu-Hiltunen, the director of the Singing Heritage Route cultural route, and Maria Iltola, the communication coordinator, were finally able to make the visits to the route’s partners. The visit confirmed the importance of our route operations and significantly improved the cooperation between different operators. On the same trip, we visited the Finnish-Ugric seminar, which was organized in Otepää, Estonia. The goal was to intensify cooperation in that direction as well, within the framework of the 2023 Finnish-Ugric cultural capital year of Kuhmo.
The National Museum of Estonia in Tartu was visited by people already active in our SHR network, as well as new ones interested in the topic. At the event, it was confirmed that in the future the museum can serve as a central information point for the route and a common place of action. The museum also hopes that Finnish higher education institutions will be interested in the materials they have available. The museum has exhibitions using modern technology on singing traditions as well as languages and dialects spoken in the Baltic Sea region. The museum’s ethnographic collection is extensive and beautifully displayed. (https://www.erm.ee/en)
The next place to visit was Seto Kingdom in Eastern Estonia, where we had discussions about both the route and the Finno-Ugric cooperation. Setos are very interested in the exchange of performers as well as the development of cultural tourism. (https://www.visitsetomaa.ee/en)
We also visited two places in Latvia, the town of Ludza, right near the eastern border, which, despite its small size, offers a perfect setting for tourists. They organize, among other things, craft and food festivals, which add color to our route. In Daugavpils, a very enthusiastic group of cultural and tourism operators awaited us. We heard a presentation about destinations that would be interested in participating in route activities.

The first visit to Lithuania was made to the capital Vilnius. There they talked in particular about what opportunities the route operation brings to the region and how much investment it requires from operators. As the evening got dark, we arrived in the small town of Birzai and its most significant place to visit, Sela Castle. Our visit was memorable. The castle’s tour guide introduced us to the traditional brewing method and of course let us taste a little. Every now and then in the program we could hear the singing and playing of a folk music group and we also get to participate in traditional dances. The welcome on the tour was very warm and people were enthusiastic about our route project. Now begins the construction of a wider network and the planning of joint actions. We also offer the opportunity for international cooperation and visibility improvement for tour operators, cultural operators, educational organizations, etc.

The annual meeting of the cultural routes of the Council of Europe was organized in Crete, Chania. More than 400 representatives had arrived. The seminars largely dealt with the digitalization of routes and perspectives of sustainable development. Cultural route statuses were also distributed to three new routes. Most importantly for us, Pekka presented the Singing Heritage Route at the forum and it received a very warm reception. The audience found the song theme important and it defenetly unites all the nations of the world. The clear presentation and the video by AiAi Productions also received a lot of praise. SHR’s own evaluation has started and in November we will receive Evdoxia Baniotopoulou, who will evaluate our route. Her task is to first read through our application paper and then come and get to know some of the places along the route. We introduce her to the culture offered on our route, both singing traditions and museum activities, we aim to show her our readiness for cooperation and show him the functionality of our network. This is how we try to convince her to recommend the cultural route status for us.
